Electric vehicles are slowly taking over the world. We’ve seen cities around the globe replace their cars and buses with more eco-friendly options, with China leading the way. However, how about emergency vehicles? This police department may be one of the first to have Tesla in their fleet.

It’s perhaps no surprise to learn that the first US police department to have a Tesla in their fleet was located in Fremont, California. This city in the San Francisco Bay Area is home to Tesla’s massive vehicle factory, so it makes sense that it would be the first to appear a Tesla police car!

An invoice presented by the Fremont Police Department shows that the guys actually purchased a used 2014 Tesla Model S from the company over a year ago. They cost just over $61,000, but that’s not all they had to spend on their Tesla police car. More than $4,000 modifications were added to the car, including bulletproofing, prisoner seats and, of course, flashing lights.

The Fremont Police Department told interviewers that they expect their new Tesla to hit the streets in February 2019. It is rumored to replace one of their aging Dodge Charger cars. , but there’s a reason they chose Tesla. Since 2009, Fremont police have been working hard to reduce the carbon footprint and emissions of their vehicles. They already have a fleet of Toyota Prius and Ford Fusion cars, so this Tesla will fit in quite well with the rest.

More police departments could certainly take a piece of Fremont’s book and look at reducing emissions from their vehicles. Plus, a Tesla police car is one of the coolest ever! It is a win-win situation.
